A Look at KeywordSpy Tracking 2.0

At first sight, the Tracking module 2.0 seems to have an overwhelming amount of data that might set off confusion. Fear not, it is actually very user friendly and KeywordSpy did a good job in organizing its interface to the full use of everyone.

First off, what's different? The first version of KeywordSpy Tracking allowed you to store a domain and associated keywords for the system to track PPC ad appearance and SEO ranking on a daily basis. This means that the system tracks keywords you have stored and keywords of the domain you have selected to selected search engines and countries.

It reports PPC ad position, coverage, ad variations and the dates where they were indexed in the database. For organic keywords, the system reports on the position of the domain based on the keywords and the date they were seen. Additional features are the other websites and advertisers using or bidding on the keywords you have stored. That's pretty much it.

Tracking 2.0 is different in a way that it tracks down keyword activity only in PPC and SEO fields. You can still name the campaign based on a domain URL but do not expect the system to track down information URL-based. The significance of this system is it narrow downs the system reports and focuses the reports on your monitored keywords.

The module will provide information based on the ad copy appearance and visibility as well as organic rankings of domains and ads attributed to the keywords you have selected for monitoring.

KeywordSpy Tracking 2.0 Reports

The reports follow a smooth interface of data which includes: (1) Overview - the top competitors for the keywords in a campaign on the selected search engines where they are being monitored; (2) Keywords- the list containing the keywords of the campaign and brief information on the domains using each one; (3) Competitors - the list of competitors using the keywords and a detailed look on the keyword standing of each domain; (4) Suggested Keywords - relative keywords corresponding to your competitors but not being monitored in the campaign; (5) Comparison - comparison page that allows for side-by-side reporting on 2 domains or advertisers' keywords; (6) Watchlist - shortcuts to reports on priority keywords and domains within a campaign; and (7) Alerts - configuration of email alerts on new competition and keywords.

The organic keyword reports now includes the daily rankings of the websites optimizing on the keywords you have used for a campaign. This also shows ranking reports as well as a Growth Meter which can be filtered on a daily, weekly, and monthly views.

The New Metrics

Before they were the Ad Position, Coverage percentage, and Dates with the respective analytics reflecting also the Organic reports. Tracking 2.0 provides additional metrics including: Average Cost per Click and Clicks per Day of given keywords; Ad Counts on the advertisers; Ad History Times Seen ratio for ad variations; Organic Click value for keywords; and growth meter on organic website rankings.

The Tracking reports also include preview options of the ads and search engine results currently ranking for the keywords in a given campaign. Aside from that, Ad Variation reports now include a screenshot of the landing page as well as the landing page URL and the meta title and keywords of the page.

The Additional Features

Another feature clients have been dying to have is the filter option. With the high amount of information, you can now filter the report to see the information your particular domain is focused on. The reports can be filtered according to the column headers and a new date range feature allows narrowing down a report to a particular time frame. That means no more going through tens of pages to see reports from way back when.

Tracking's Comparison feature allows you to compare advertiser information of a given keyword against each other. This is an easy interface to see common and different keywords of the competition, the current status of their keywords and the terms and phrases the campaign is missing on.

It was stated earlier on that Tracking 2.0 reports data based on the keywords you have stored for a campaign only and does not include URL-based data. What ever happened to keywords of a particular domain I wanted to track that I may have missed, you might ask? Tracking 2.0 re-categorized this feature in the Suggested Keywords tab. In here, you will find the lists of keywords of the competition apart from the keywords you have monitored. So there is no such thing as missing out on anything. You can conveniently add these keywords to your monitoring campaign with a simple click.

The amount of information also comes with convenience and flexibility options. You can now easily create a shortcut to keywords and domains of interest through the watchlist option. The Watchlist allows you to save a particular keyword or advertiser within your monitored keywords to be able to access their updated reports easily.

Export results and Alerts. Another client demand that Tracking 2.0 is now providing is the ability to export Tracking data and receive alerts for keywords and competitors within a campaign. Export options are conveniently located on the reports themselves through a Text or Excel icons, just as they are in the Research module. Receiving of email alerts on new competitors or new keywords of a domain is as easy as configuring your alert settings in one quick tab.
